Picnic Poems — Collector's Edition
Excerpt from the foreword
When you think of poems that are one hundred years old, what comes to mind? Maybe a medieval lute? Obscure language, or a dusty textbook?
A few years ago I learned about poems in the public domain, meaning very old poetry freely available to the public. The poems I read took me by surprise. They were relatable, with rich emotions and quiet contemplations. They were witty and romantic. Life-giving.
These were not poems meant to be forgotten or read for homework. I set out to create a book with the best poems for outdoor reading (perhaps while on a picnic), with a fresh and modern design perspective and careful curation.
I am aware that many older poetry collections in English focus on white men. As a Korean American woman, I made the conscious effort to spotlight a variety of voices, going as far as translating from the languages I know.
I hope you take this book outside, have some wine, and read & enjoy!
